I’m guessing you’ve all heard that common and seemingly sensible advice of ‘start at the bottom and work your way up’. I don’t want to throw the whole thing out because consistent, committed action towards a goal is essential if we ever want to move from where we are now, to where we want to be. But here’s what I want to open your eyes to. You don’t have to start at the bottom!
It’s so much harder when you decide to struggle uphill from the outset. It’s going to waste you so many years when you could just decide to meet what you want where it’s at from the very beginning!
‘What the frig is she talking about?’ you may ask?
I’m talking about Becoming who you need to be to achieve what it is that you desire…. And it starts with living ‘as if’. Think about it… do you dream of a life where you get time to walk in nature? Time to bond with your kids. Where you have a six-figure business and host workshops that impact others’ lives and sell out each time? Or a home that inspires you and reflects all that you are?
So do it. Why don’t you host a local workshop then? Step out the door and take that walk? How can you make time to put down your phone and be with your kid for a quality half hour of one-on-one time, and why don’t you order that paint colour or hang those pictures up?
Seriously! Why do you believe you need to wait before you do those things? And yes, I can hear you now… I wish I could, but I simply don’t have the time or the money. If you have the time to read this blog then you have time to spend twenty minutes with your kid or start writing your own blog.
If money is super tight right now, can you re-arrange your space or declutter? What I mean is, we are deciding every minute of every day, what we choose to give our energy and attention to. Yes, deciding. If we take a moment to stop arguing for our limitations and instead choose to try out being the defence lawyer for our dreams and desires instead, then there is almost always a way to begin whatever it is you want to begin.
Think about that successful version of yourself that you occasionally glimpse at…how does she show up? Make decisions? How does she dress and what does her day look like?
And are your own behaviors and actions each day aligning with that vision that you say you want? If not… what needs to change? What CAN change right now??
It needn’t be big. It might be allowing yourself to buy a beautiful bunch of flowers each week with your weekly shop. Or that perfume you’ve been smelling in the store for the past year. Or it might be setting your alarm half an hour earlier to get some writing time in or do that yoga so that even if it’s a home-schooling day from hell, you’ve already taken action towards your own needs.
The truth is – you do get to decide. Every single day.
So who is that woman you imagine?… and how can you choose to stop the waiting and the passive hoping and begin to become her, right now!? One small movement, can create the ripple that becomes the powerful wave of change.
Become who you need to be…BEHAVE how that kind of person you aspire to would behave… live ‘as if’, and prepare each day for the opportunities that will reveal themselves once you are ready to receive them…
That’s how it changes, that’s how it happens.
